UPDATED! Everything We Know About The 2024 Disney Dining Plan

Sharing is caring!

The news is out: the Disney Dining Plan will return in early 2024! Foodies and vacationers who love eating are excited about finally returning to this well-loved program. Here’s everything we know about the 2024 Disney Dining Plan, including the price.

What Is The Disney Dining Plan (DDP) And Why Do We Miss It?

Food, food and MORE FOOD is your simple reason.

And a feeling of not being ‘nickel and dimed’ at the parks is another.

The Disney Dining Plan is a pre-paid meal program that allows you to budget your snacks and meals upfront. You choose from one of 2 meal plan options that may work best for your family and pay for the plan 30 days before you check into the resort.

When you arrive at your Walt Disney World Resort, most of your meals will be paid for.

How it works: when you order at a quick service location or finish your meal at a table service, you’ll swipe the MagicBand+ or your room card to “pay” for the meal.

It’s Magical!

Don’t forget to leave a tip at table service locations!

2024 DDP Availability

The Disney Dining Plan was one of the biggest pandemic-era losses for Walt Disney World parkgoers.

This program was sunset when the parks closed in March 2020 and has yet to return.

All that changes in 2024, however!

The 2024 Disney Dining Plan will be available for vacation packages starting January 9, 2024.

Don’t Forget To Tip When Using The Disney Dining Plan!

Gratuities are not included except when you use them for the dinner shows and at Cinderella’s Royal Table.

So bring your credit card, linked magic band, or cash to any table service meal so you can pay the gratuity at the end of the meal.

A couple of notes to the Disney Gratuity Policy:

  • An 18% gratuity will automatically be added to your bill for parties of 6 or more.
  • An automatic gratuity charge may also be added to your bill for certain items you order that are not included in the Disney Dining Plan.

Additional Charges To Note

Certain select menu items require payment of an additional amount in addition to redeeming the number of meals required at the location.

For example, the Disney Dining Plan Laupu Lapu does NOT come in a pineapple. It comes like this:

If you want the Pineapple filled version of this boozy drink- and trust me, you DO! – be sure to mention it at the time of ordering.

However, this will incur an additional upcharge if you use the Disney Dining Plan.

But sometimes the experience and the photos are worth it, amirite?

How To Track Your Disney Dining Plan Credits

Your dining plan usage is linked to your Disney Resort Reservation.

You can keep track of the meals and snack credits remaining in the following ways:

  • View your remaining meals and snacks in the My Disney Experience app.
  • Check your dining receipts. The remaining meals and snacks are printed on them.
  • Ask your Resort Concierge or Guest Relations to obtain them at any time.”

Just like Cinderella: watch the expiration clock to hit midnight on the day you check out!

Unused meals and snacks will roll over day to day and expire at midnight on the day of checkout.

Is The Disney Dining Plan (DDP) Worth It?

That really depends on how you and your family eat.

If you are big eaters then either plan will certainly fuel your family up for full park days! We can’t over stress this: the Disney Dining Plan comes with a lot of food for each person at Disney World.

With that in mind, this may not be the best option for you if you are a family that shares a meal between kids or adults. Paying out of pocket may ultimately be a less expensive option.

Dollar per dollar, we don’t think it’s a huge cost saving for most families. At least in the past, that was not the case.

But there are ways to maximize your meals that could bring you out ahead (order the steak, for example vs a pasta entree).

chip at epcot garden grill disney character dining

One exception comes with some Character meals; using the DDP may end up saving a bit in certain instances.

But some character meals take 2 DDP credits, which may not feel worth it.

The Disney Dining Plan is worth it for some families for the “set it and forget it” approach. There’s no bickering about cost when it comes to ordering meals. You get to feel like the “Yes” mom and dad because you know the price has already been accounted for.

There’s no additional stress when you see the hefty bill at the end of your dinner, which we think helps with digestion (we kid- kinda).

Watch the Round-Up Rodeo BBQ Dining Review to see if the newest Disney World restaurant is possibly worth your DDP!

Yay how exciting! This is super helpful! Thank you! I just was confused but I think maybe the second section header (What Is Offered In The Disney Quick Service Dining Plan) is the option for the regular dining plan not quick service, correct?
