Port Orleans French Quarter Room Tour (2024): Why runDisney Runners Love This Resort!

Sharing is caring!

Planning a runDisney vacation can be a little different than a typical family trip to Disney World. One of the big questions asked: which resort is the best resort for runDisney marathon weekends? There really isn’t a one size fits all answer. But we’re giving you a Port Orleans French Quarter room tour and letting you know why we think runners love staying at this resort.

Why Runners Love Port Orleans French Quarter

You might be a Port Orleans French Quarter (POFQ for those that love Disney abbreviations) lover if you run all the races and split your non-running time between the theme parks and relaxing to some New Orleans vibes.

For you, a resort that does the job and doesn’t bite your budget too hard is key and a moderate resort at Disney World fits your needs.

We get it- and we’re here to say you make very good choices.

Port Orleans French Quarter is one of our favorite resorts for a runDisney weekend for all those reasons and more.

It’s also a great place to stay if you are NOT a runner. Disney guests often rank this resort as one of their favorite moderate Disney resort options.

Port Orleans French Quarter room tour starts when you drive through the front gates.

And if you’ve stayed at the moderate resorts at Walt Disney World lately, you know there have been some big step-ups in room design and comfort.

We’re talking walk-in showers and hardwood floors giving some of these older resorts a much-needed facelift.

And the biggest upgrade: queen beds at every moderate resort.

Running Trails At Disney World: Running Around Port Orleans French Quarter

Using the New Balance jogging paths, you can get additional miles around the resort’s scenic river path.

If you combine POFQ with its sister resort, Port Orleans Riverside, you can get 1.7 miles in on one loop through the properties.

And honestly, this is one of the prettiest and most serene of the Disney World running trails.

So Port Orleans French Quarter has a lot going for it as a resort in general: a decent food court and a great gift shop.

You don’t generally share buses with other resorts, which is huge.

It’s a smaller property that also makes it incredibly cozy and quaint.

And- the biggest reason to stay here- you can score some of those man-catching beignets that Tiana is famous for. Until we know otherwise, this is the only location at Walt Disney World where you can enjoy these incredible Disney snacks.

Honestly, it’s worth the stay for these sweet treats alone.

This is one of the main reasons runners think Port Orleans French Quarter is the best resort for a runDisney race weekend.

But when you book Port Orleans French Quarter, you are probably most interested in the room.

Here are some pics that help you see what you get inside the room.

We tried to take photos of major elements that matter to Disney vacationers- and yes, you runners and your need for coffee were at the top of our list!

It’s a single-pod coffee maker at Port Orleans French Quarter (but you can brew two cups at once- need two pods!).

If you need more supplies, call Housekeeping.

We tend to use a lot of coffee on race weekends, so we always ask for a big bag of creamer and pods and cups.

The curtains look like Mardi Gras beads- which we absolutely loved!

Port Orleans French Quarter Room Tour: The Beds At Port Orleans French Quarter

You get 2 queen beds in each room (unless you book a King).

There’s a table and two chairs, which is great for families that want to grab a small bite in the room, or for folks who have to work while traveling.

And all the pillows you could want. We had 4 on each bed, which was plenty!

But of course, if you need more, call Housekeeping and they can deliver.

The raised beds are also super nice for finding additional luggage storage. We unpacked and slid the unused cases under the bed and out of the way for the week.

Port Orleans French Quarter Room Tour: Bathrooms

Nothing too earth-shattering when it comes to the bathrooms at POFQ.

Our one concern: we wish there were more than a curtain for privacy however.

Even Pop Century has upgraded to a sliding door to separate the bathroom user from the room users.

But other than that small complaint, the bathroom has 2 sinks and plenty of storage around the mirror.

The powder room and shower are together in one area.

Our room still had a tub in it, but as Disney upgrades rooms, many are going away.

You’ll get a bathtub in Port Orleans French Quarter rooms.

This may sway you from staying at other locations if you like to do an ice bath after your races, or have littles who prefer baths over showers.

And we have the standard bulk shampoo and conditioner and body wash located here.

Not my favorite, but the Mousekeeping staff keeps things stocked, which is important to most guests.

Extra Things To Note in the Rooms At Port Orleans French Quarter

The room comes with a standard Disney phone, and they actually work.

We can’t say that for all the phones we’ve used in Walt Disney World resorts.

You also get a cleaned and covered TV remote, big screen TV, plugs, and USB outlets.

Plus, there’s a bench that can be a luggage rack and some additional pegs for hanging coats or hoodies on.

Beyond the Port Orleans French Quarter Room Tour: Sister Resort Port Orleans Riverside

Have you ever wanted to mix things up a bit on vacation and visit another resort?

Staying at Port Orleans French Quarter makes that option an easy reality.

In general, guests cannot pool hop (ie, use other resort pools they are not booked at) on Disney property.

Port Orleans resorts, however, allow it.

You can walk between the two resorts, and better still, use the other resort amenities like the pool and hot tub.

While we think the Port Orleans French Quarter room tour is helpful, knowing that you can pool hop and resort hop to Port Orleans Riverside may be the clincher.

Enjoy a stunning boat ride along the Sassagoula River while at POFQ. This will take you to Disney Springs for dining and shopping in about 20 minutes.

You can also eat one of the most delicious “hidden secrets” table service dining at Disney World with just a small walk down to Port Orleans- Riverside.

If you like home cooking with a spicy New Orleans flair, you’ll love your meal at Riverside’s Boatwrights.

Absolutely delightful in every way!

All these reasons are why Port Orleans French Quarter is high on the list regarding the best Disney resort for runDisney marathon weekends.
