Patty 0:08
To all who come to our happy place, welcome to the No-Guilt Disney Podcast, where we have no guilt about our love for all things Disney.

Jane 0:16
We are three Disney fan girls who probably know more about Disney Parks than most grown women should, and we are perfectly okay with that.

Theresa 0:24
Yeah, it’s pretty true. Hello everyone, I am Theresa and you can find me on Twitter at @GertieTheDino and Instagram at @in.sight.full.life.

Jane 0:37
I’m Jane and you can find me on Instagram at @RealMousewifeWDW.

Patty 0:43
I’m Patty Holliday from it NoGuiltDisney.com and the No-Guilt Fangirls Podcast. You can find me on all socials at @NoGuiltLife. And again, thanks so much for listening. We know that you have a zillion choices out there when it comes to Disney podcasts, and we appreciate that you take your time to queue us up and listen to us week after week.

Jane 1:05
If you don’t want to miss any episodes, please go ahead and click subscribe so they’ll automatically download for you.

Theresa 1:11
Yes, it’s very helpful. And make sure if you are on Apple podcasts or anywhere else that you can leave a review, it helps us out a lot if you do a five star one.

Jane 1:24
It’s really helpful for the new podcasts anywhere that allows it, go ahead and throw one up.

Theresa 1:30
The more you do that, the more it tells Apple, the more it tells Stitchr, wherever you’re listening, it says “Oh, people are really enjoying this, which we obviously hope that you are. But once it sees that it’ll push us up higher in the rankings, and they’ll be more likely to suggest us to others.

Patty 1:49
Yep, and speaking of positive reviews, thanks to everyone who has been so supportive of the podcast. The response has blown us away. We’re having a lot of fun. If you haven’t done it yet, come join us over in the Facebook group which is No-Guilt Disney.

Jane 2:04
The emails you guys are sending us have been fantastic. And because we’re talking about Preserve, Refurb, Demolish, I know Theresa wanted to share this one with you.

Theresa 2:16
Yes, this came from Leslie S. And she was – I feel like she was speaking directly to me, even though I know it was for all of us. So Leslie said, “I’m loving the podcast because I have a lot of Disney opinions.” Yes. Holla girl.

Jane 2:33
Same girl. <laughter>

Theresa 2:36
“After listening to the Preserve, Refurb, or Demolish, I knew immediately I wanted to refurb the Pirates ride and get rid of Jack Sparrow.” Yes, let’s do that. “Could this also be an unpopular opinion? While I love the first movie, the others weren’t anywhere near the first one. And I never thought they warrented putting those characters into the ride.” I say, say whatever you want about adding characters into rides, the classic rides, where they don’t belong. Anybody who has those opinions, you can put it in the Facebook group, you can send it to [email protected]. Please tell me how much you dislike characters in classic rides.

Patty 2:36
Okay, I’m gonna let you have your opinion, but I’m gonna have one caveat here. If the rumor out there actually should happen, which I know it’s a rumor and I don’t think it’s gonna happen. But if they were to actually reboot Pirates of the Caribbean, with my beloved Zac Efron in the title role, we can get rid of Johnny Depp and put Zac into Pirates, and I will ride that ride for forevermore. I will never get off it. I will just keep looping through it, because Zac Efron.

Theresa 3:47
I keep waiting for them to announce that they’re gonna put The Rock in Jungle Cruise. I’m waiting for that one. Not excitedly waiting. But I’m anticipating that

Jane 4:05
Probably for the first time ever, I’m with you, Theresa. That will make me cringe.

Theresa 4:10
Yay. I get so excited when we have the same opinion on something because it happens so infrequently.

Patty 4:17
Okay, well, we’re gonna all agree – and I love The Rock. Dwayne Johnson is one of my favorite people with the some of the things he’s spoken out with, like mental health and such like that. I absolutely adore Dwayne Johnson. Fast and Furious. Oh my gosh. Alright, anyway, point being even I would say no Rock on the Jungle Cruise. So we all agree no Rock on the Jungle Cruise. Disney, don’t do it.

Theresa 4:42
Obviously Disney takes our opinions very seriously. So we know this is gonna change their minds.

Patty 4:48
Absolutely. 100%. <laughs> All right, well, let’s have some fun. We are playing a Disney version of Kiss, Marry, Kill. Jane, for those that don’t know what game that is, tell us how the traditional Kiss, Marry, Kill works.

Jane 4:52
Also noted, I think that we need to get game show music for times when I need to explain rules to the game. Anywho. Kiss, Marry, Kill. There is another name for this game that we’re not going to say because we’re family podcast. And what we do is we take three attractions, shows, anything from the Parks that someone gives us randomly. And we say which one we’re going to preserve which one we’re going to refurb and which one we are going to demolish.

Patty 5:41
Hey, guys, I just have to interrupt. This is so cute. My daughter is listening to us record this podcast and she’s eight years old, and she’s just my little mini me. Anyway, she wrote down a note and she handed it to me. She said “Fast and Furious for life.” <laughter> She also said, “True, true. Zac is the best.” I mean, when my other kids ask me who’s my favorite and I point to Lucy, that is why y’all. That is why.

Jane 6:10
Hang that on the fridge.

Patty 6:12
I know, right? All right. So that’s Kiss, Marry, Kill. Theresa, what is the Disney version that we’re about to play?

Theresa 6:20
So like Jane said, it’s Preserve, Refurb, Demolish. And so essentially, I had my friend Krysten, I had her give me three attractions and we are going to decide which one we’re going to preserve. It will remain exactly as it is, from now until forever. We’ll each pick one that we’re going to refurb, and it can be any kind of update. There’s no restrictions on how big or small that refurbishment could be. And then the last one, we will be demolishing. It will be removed, never to be seen again at Disney except for in YouTube videos. So I asked my friend Krysten, and since we did Walt Disney World attractions the last time, I decided to reach out to a Disneyland local and get some from the West coast. I know Patty said this too when she asked for the Disney World attractions, I wish I’d given some kind of a…All I said was it can be Disneyland, DCA, give me either. And when she gave me the three, I just I put my head in my hands a little bit because I’m – it hurts to think about demolishing any of these and I’ll be honest, I still may change my mind midway through recording this of what I’m gonna pick for each one because I can’t…demolishing any of them is just making me sad.

Patty 7:44
This one was easy for me.

Theresa 7:45
See, the other one, Disney World, that was super easy for me. This one I’m still staring at it and I might switch my refurb and demolish. But so our three attractions that we received is Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion, Soarin’ and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.

Patty 8:05
Alright, let’s start with Haunted Mansion. Jane: Haunted Mansion. What are you doing with it?

Jane 8:12
Refurb.

Patty 8:14
Theresa?

Theresa 8:15
I did Preserve.

Patty 8:17
I did preserve too.

Theresa 8:19
This is the only one that I knew what I was picking right from the start.

Patty 8:23
Yeah, so I said preserve because I think hands down, and I haven’t been to any of the overseas versions so I can’t say anything toward those, this is just Disney World versus Disneyland. This ride is perfection to me. I love everything about the Haunted Mansion. I will ride it every single trip. It makes me really happy to be on it. The only thing I don’t have those warm fuzzy feelings for are the overlay that’s out for half a year. However, I still appreciate what what they’ve done with that overlay and how clever it is. So if you are a Nightmare Before Christmas person, it’s really well done. But I love the traditional Haunted Mansion. I just love everything about this ride. So I’m preserving it. I don’t think it needs to be touched.

Theresa 9:13
That’s also partially why I picked preserve for right now, because it is not currently with the overlay. I think the overlay is very impressive, just completely changing the interior of attraction in such a quick amount of time and I think it’s really well done. However, it’s the nostalgia factor, which we all know is very strong inside of me. So I think Florida’s is a little bit better, their Haunted Mansion I like a little bit more, but I do love especially the exterior of the Disneyland one in New Orleans Square. I love it, it’s a ride I will go on every single time.

Patty 9:52
Wait, why do you like Disney World’s better? I need to know what your reasoning is.

Theresa 9:57
I like the scene with the – the stairway scene, where they have the stairways on the ceiling. I don’t know, I just like it better. Now Disneyland’s, I think where they have the edge is because of how close the show scenes are to the track it, and that’s just Disneyland attractions in general, the show seems seem much closer to where your cars are. So it makes me feel a little bit more immersed. But I don’t know. I think it’s just a feeling, I like Florida’s better.

Jane 10:29
So for me, I chose refurb because we do see what they can do with this ride with the overlay. I love the overlay. I think it was great. It was definitely worth it when I went out at Christmas this year. It was the first time I was able to see it. We rode it several times. I’m a Nightmare Before Christmas fan, but I like that they didn’t take out so much of the original elements because I do love the story. I do love the nostalgia and the history of it, but I know that they can refurb it and keep some of those elements in there. So, because we’ve had such a tough choice with these three, that’s why I chose refurb on it.

Theresa 11:10
I kind of thought as soon as you said refurb, I was like, “She wants The Nightmare Before Christmas there the entire time.”

Jane 11:15
I don’t, I actually don’t. And we can talk about this on another podcast, but of the Christmas attractions at Disneyland, this one is not my favorite.

Patty 11:24
Yeah, it’s not mine either.

Jane 11:27
But I do think that they have a lot of opportunity. And like Patty said, with what they can do overseas, I just think there’s some sort of happy medium between the nostalgia and then updating it as well.

Patty 11:39
All right, well, that’s fair. And hey, we didn’t have to fight too much on this one. So that’s good, too.

Jane 11:46
Oh, well that’s going to come very quickly.

Patty 11:50
All right. So are we going to Preserve, Refurb or Demolish Soarin’ at Disneyland?

Jane 11:58
Demolish.

Theresa 11:59
I need to go last, because I still haven’t decided.

Patty 12:01
Okay, okay. Jane says demolish. All right, I’m going with refurb.

Theresa 12:07
Alright, I think I’m going with refurb. As much as it hurts.

Patty 12:14
Okay, Jane, why are you demolishing it? Which I have to say, I’m kind of surprised. I thought you really liked Soarin’.

Jane 12:23
I do. I really love Soarin’, especially out here in Epcot because the quality and choices of rides in Epcot is so slim pickins, so Soarin’ is definitely my number one out here in Epcot. But West coast is the best coast. There’s a lot for Soarin’ to compete with out there. And it’s honestly one of the rides I skip when I go and visit. So as far as I’m concerned, they could be shut down or closed and I will not give it another thought.

Patty 12:59
All right, fair. I went with refurb on this one and basically because I want Soarin’ over California.

Theresa 13:06
Yeah, exactly. I do not like Soarin’ over the World and that’s something I can go on about for a long time. I do not like that one. But Soarin’ over California is one of my favorite all time attractions. So put that in California permanently. That’s what I want.

Patty 13:25
Yes, I totally 100% agree. I don’t dislike Over the World at all. But it’s California. The whole park is California.

Theresa 13:36
Well…is it now? Debatable.

Patty 13:41
Debatable, correct. But that’s what I want. I thought, what a fun idea to have California left in California, and then have the world one over at Disney World. You know what I mean? That’s my preference. That’s what I wish they would have done.

Jane 13:58
I’d probably ride it if we changed it back to California.

Patty 14:01
See? See Disney? This is what you need to do, man. You need to listen to this podcast and take our decisions under advisement.

Theresa 14:11
I’m also kind of surprised no one’s picked up on or no one’s gone after the fact that I said I really hate something in Epcot. You’re just like leaving that to the side.

Jane 14:18
Well, I’m there saying it’s one of my favorite things at Epcot. <laughter>

Patty 14:24
What is this? Is this Bizarro day? What is going on?

Theresa 14:28
Are we putting this out on April 1?

Jane 14:29
Y’all, it’s early.

Patty 14:31
Is that the answer, that we have to record early instead of the end of the day? By the end of the day, all the snarky claws come out and in the morning, we’re having our coffee together. It’s all good.

Jane 14:43
The day is young.

Patty 14:44
The day is young, there’s always time for snark to come out later. All right, so then we’re moving through this. This is round three. We are going to talk preserve, refurb, or demolish Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and I’m going first on this one. I say demolish that SOB, get it out of here.

Theresa 15:02
I’m also clearly demolish, because that’s what left, but I’m not as excited about saying that as you are. I’m feel…I’m mad at myself. This is the argument that’s happening. It’s not on air. It’s my internal monologue. It’s like, “Why are you doing this???”

Jane 15:18
And I am Team Preserve. This is a national treasure, folks. I don’t understand why you killed this ride here in Florida. So if that’s the only place I can ride it is in Disneyland, I say keep it as it is. We can’t take an – look. I’m going to take the Theresa stance on this one. We can’t take all the nostalgia out. This is one I would keep as is, don’t touch it, outdated, whatever. I want to go on my wild ride in my car with my cardboard cutouts.

Patty 15:59
So I ride this ride every single time, and it is one of my children’s favorite rides; they all love Mr. Toad’s. However. Every time I get on it, I think I am at the worst mother in the entire world because we go to Hell. We are taking our children to Hell in Disneyland.

Jane 16:18
What is wrong with that?

Theresa 16:19
See, that’s why I love it. That’s one of the things, that’s the kind of Disney stuff that I love. You know, this nostalgia factor, but also when you get on something like, “What is this doing in a Disney park?” Same thing with Country Bear Jamboree, like we discussed. You know? “What? Why is this? How is this still here?” I think those things are amazing. I feel like I’m not arguing for demolishing it, because I don’t really want to do that. It’s just where I ended up with the other two.

Patty 16:44
<laughs> Yeah, I don’t think you have a very strong argument.

Theresa 16:48
I don’t, I’m not trying to convince anybody of my side on this. It’s just where things fell. I’m sorry Mr. Toad. I love you. <laughter>

Patty 17:02
Like I said, out of the list I was like, “Oh that’s easy,” because like I said, every time I get on this I’m like, “Why do I keep subjecting my children to this? Shouldn’t I not be doing this? Oh my gosh, what was wrong with parents in the 50s that they were okay with those rides?” Because the other one that’s really intense is Snow White and even Pinocchio. Those dark rides…we didn’t shy away back then from scarring children apparently. And all of them are very, when you look at it from a parental point of view, you’re like, holy cow.

Theresa 17:36
Snow White is another one that I think it’s hilarious. I’m like, “So…you you get a boulder pushed on you?” I think they said that they’re redoing the ending though. Like it’s getting a proper ending now when they refurb it.

Jane 17:47
Hey, what do you mean a proper ending, right? <laughs> They kiss, she wakes up, Dopey sits on the ceiling and says goodbye. We’re good.

Patty 18:00
Oh my gosh, always so fun to have these episodes and to see where we end up in our discussions on all these things.

Theresa 18:10
I know you mentioned Lucy was there earlier, is she still listening to us and does she have her own opinions that she would like to share?

Patty 18:16
Oh, I should ask her. Yeah, Lucy, come here. You heard what we were talking about right? Preserve, Refurb, and Demolish? Okay, tell us out of those three rides, which I’m going to remind you there Soarin’, Haunted Mansion, and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. What would you keep and not change at all? Which one do you ride that you love?

Lucy 18:39
Oh, gosh, that is hard. I mean, after you said about Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. O-kay, we’re demolishing that. <laughter>

Patty 18:53
Did you not realize that that’s what happened in the ride?

Lucy 18:57
Oh no. No!

Patty 19:00
Where did you think we went when it was all hot and red? You don’t know?

Lucy 19:04
No…but like, into a chimney? Into a chimney with fire? I don’t know. I can’t remember going on it, because it has been a long time since I’ve been to Disneyland.

Patty 19:15
That’s true. You haven’t been to Disneyland in a while. Okay, so that one, you want to you want to demolish that. So what would you preserve? What would you keep?

Lucy 19:24
Ah, that is so hard, because I like the Haunted Mansion a lot. And I really like Soarin’. They’re both good riiiiides.

Patty 19:33
Too hard to choose?

Lucy 19:36
Yessssssssss.

Theresa 19:37
She’s going through the same thing I was going through.

Patty 19:39
Exactly. She’s stressing out, just like Theresa. She’s holding her cheeks. You guys should see, I should take a video. Alright, I won’t make you choose. I don’t want to stress you out like I stressed out Miss Theresa. Yeah. So we’ll let you off the hook

Theresa 19:52
There’s enough for one of us to do that.

Lucy 19:54
They’re all really good rides.

Patty 19:56
They are all really good rides, aren’t they? Yeah, yeah. All right. Well there you go. That’s the eight year old opinion.

Lucy 20:03
Well, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. You need…Mr. Toad. You need to not go to H-E-L-L. You need to not go there. Just stop doing bad things!

Theresa 20:16
<laughing> Oh, I’m crying.

Patty 20:25
Our first guest on the podcast!

Theresa 20:29
Can we have her on every time? She replace me, that’s fine.

Lucy 20:32
If he stopped smoking and doing bad stuff, then he wouldn’t go to H-E-L-L!

Jane 20:41
I feel like Lucy’s talking directly to me. <laughter> Called out by an eight year old.

Patty 20:50
You are, you are. Stop doing bad stuff, Jane.

Theresa 20:58
You judge other people for doing bad stuff. You don’t do it yourself. Come on.

Patty 21:02
Oh, how’s it feel? The 8-year old judging you?

Jane 21:07
Feels amazing sweetie.

Lucy 21:09
I bet she would not go to H-E-L-L.

Patty 21:11
No, Jane would not. Jane’s a good person. We’re just Miss Jane a hard time. All right, my dogs here now everything’s good to go. So we’re gonna cut this off. Thanks for joining us Lucy.

Lucy 21:27
You’re welcome!

Patty 21:30
You know this is this has been enlightening. Jane has a little bit of the nostalgia factor in there. She pulled a Theresa this week, so that was good.

Theresa 21:37
And I’m gonna go as soon as we sign off, go eat my feelings. Because I’m still…I’m not happy about this one, guys.

Patty 21:46
Sorry, girl

Jane 21:48
Theresa’s gonna need a minute.

Theresa 21:50
Just wait. I’m glad we haven’t done an Epcot exclusive one yet, because I’m just gonna… I might have to somebody sub in for me.

Jane 21:59
Noted.

Patty 22:01
Can’t do it. All right. All right, well, we are gonna wrap this one up. If you have feelings about any of these rides, we want to hear from you. We want to hear where you lie on, preserve, refurb, or demolish. So come on over to the No-Guilt Disney Facebook group. Come find us. Let’s have this discussion and let us know how you feel about these rides.

Theresa 22:24
Well and since we’ve done Walt Disney World, we’ve done Disneyland, if there is a theme you want us to do for Preserve, Refurb, or Demolish, it can be within one park, it can be restaurants or resorts. If you have a topic you want to do an episode around, let us know what that is.

Patty 22:40
Yeah, definitely send us an email. Jane, what’s the email address?

Jane 22:43
It is [email protected].

Patty 22:47
Look at you, I’m so proud of you.

Jane 22:49
I mean, it’s only thing I know guys.

Theresa 22:52
And you only just learned that last week.

Jane 22:55
It only took me 47 tries on another podcast that Patty had to edit out.

Patty 23:00
It was fun. <laughter>

Theresa 23:02
And to keep having more fun, make sure you join us each week on the No-Guilt Disney Podcast, because as Patty likes to say:

Patty 23:10
It’s no fun to fangirl Disney alone. Bye, y’all.
