Final Thoughts runDisney West Coast
Going a bit off topic because, well, I can. Bloggers prerogative to call an audible and write what fits the mood.
And as I’m packing and preparing for the last runDisney event on the west coast this week, the mood is contemplative.
It’s a wee bit sad.
I’m not hopeful that this is just a bump in the road; it feels like I’m saying goodbye.
I feel like I need to do something to commemorate this event but I don’t know just what would do it justice.
I’m running the 5K and the 10K, and plan to find a spot to cheer the half runners.
I’ve given thought to just walking all the races and staying on the course as long as I possibly can since, yes, I’m that big of a Disney dork to feel like that somehow means something.
Soaking in that environment that will not happen again for a few years (or never? Time will tell!) sounds like something I’d want to do.
Can I go back to Disneyland in the future? Of course. Disneyland isn’t closing or anything.
But race weekends are my favorite times- it’s where my community gathers and I get to see all the online friends in one place.
Plus some of my favorite memories come from the races on the west coast.
Like the time my group of friends happened to find each other at a port-o-potty and decided to finish together.
It’s where my family first experienced a runDisney event and I got to show them how fun running can really be!
(It’s fun, kids, I promise!)
A few of them actually believed me, suckers!
It’s where I met the best race cheerer EVER, Peggy Sue, and her fabulous daughter Jane.
Every time I go back to Disneyland I remember the Starbursts she gave us at the end of the Disneyland Half Marathon in 2013 that might have been the key to me finishing that race.
So many miles, so many medals, so many memories.
Disneyland runDisney, you are going to be missed. Bigly.

Patty Holliday has been running Disney since 2011. She knows just about every tip, trick, and hack there is to cover the runDisney Magical Miles at Disney World and Disneyland. She knows every mile isn’t *always* magical- but with training, tips, and a little bit of pixie dust, they can be a lot of fun! You can also find her at noguiltlife.com and noguiltfangirl.com
Is it the last runDisney at Disneyland for everyone, or just for you? Sounds like you had a lot of great memories there.
The last one for everyone; Disney has put the races on hiatus without a return date. Waaahhh lol. I do have a lot of great memories there!
Hopefully they’ll come back in a few years!
Hoping they come back to the West Coast too! Met lots of great people, friends. Best part was the people and the signs. Miss everyone!!! Hopefully we will be able to run once again (even if they bring back the 5K or 10k and skip the halfs because of space). Loved reading this, brought me back to our last race 🙂 Hope to see you all again soon!!!
Totally agree!
