Hamilton The Movie Coming To Theaters October 2021
If you heard me scream, I’m not really sorry, but it had to be done.
This is the news I was hoping for- well, wait(ing) for it, actually.
The Walt Disney Company, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jeffrey Seller, and Thomas Kail announced an agreement that will bring the 11-time-Tony Award®-, Grammy Award®-, Olivier Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning stage musical to cinema screens.
The film will be released by The Walt Disney Studios in the United States and Canada on Oct. 15, 2021.
This film promises to capture the intimacy of the live theater and bring it to the big screen- and I am here for it.
I would have signed up for any Hamilton movie screening, to be honest, because I cannot get enough. But this one? It’s special.
Original Broadway Cast Stars In Hamilton Movie
They filmed this before the original cast left the show- and I, for one, and thrilled they thought ahead.
The original Broadway cast appearing in the film include Tony Award® winners Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton; Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson; Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler; Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr; Tony Award® nominees Christopher Jackson as George Washington; Jonathan Groff as King George; Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton; and Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds; Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison; and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.
The cast also includes Carleigh Bettiol, Ariana DeBose, Hope Easterbrook, Sydney James Harcourt, Sasha Hutchings, Thayne Jasperson, Elizabeth Judd, Jon Rua, Austin Smith, Seth Stewart, and Ephraim Sykes.
Lin-Manuel Miranda Loves Disney, Too
He’s told the stories before of how he fell in love with storytelling- and just like most of us, he’s a huge 90s Disney musical fanboy.
“I fell in love with musical storytelling growing up with the legendary Howard Ashman-Alan Menken Disney collaborations – The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin,” said Lin Manuel Miranda.
“I’m so proud of what Tommy Kail has been able to capture in this filmed version of Hamilton – a live theatrical experience that feels just as immediate in your local movie theater. We’re excited to partner with Disney to bring the original Broadway company of Hamilton to the largest audience possible.”
I gotta say, my husband basically predicted this. I mean, he wore a Disney shirt when we saw Hamilton on stage.
At the time I laughed- I can take the boy out of Disney but can’t take Disney out of the boy!
But, look, y’all… he was just a step ahead of the rest of us!
