Like all Disney/Star Wars junkies, I was anxiously glued to social media & the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland last week. And immediately- IMMEDIATELY– made plans to attend the Galaxy’s Edge opening day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in August. Yup, they got me. But I’m going off planet on a budget this year and I needed to know: What’s free in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World?
Real story: I had no plans to head to Batuu any time soon. I was going to play it cool, let the crowds swarm and just stay the heck out of that.
And then FOMO (fear of missing out) hit. And it’s real.
Like, really real. And luckily for me, I have a few enabler type friends who gently pushed me over the “should I or shouldn’t I?” edge.
Y’all: find yourself some friends that support your dreams.
So I’m going. Galaxy’s Edge: I’ll be IN YOU on August 29, 2019, for the opening day excitement!
ps- if you want to follow an excellent and detailed trip report from a Disneyland Batuu resident, head over to Good Thoughts, Inc. and read what Nicole experienced!

Galaxy’s Edge: Batuu on a Budget
But hold up.
I’m, um, well I’ll be honest.
I’m low on credits these days (thanks, 16-year-old new driver son + insurance +growing an inch a month = one hurting bank account!).
#ouch
That mom life, y’all. I thought they cost a lot as babies but baahahhahahahhahahahahahahhaa.
Okay, I digress. Back to Batuu on a budget.
I knew if I made this trip, I had to be careful with costs. Let the Galaxy’s Edge budget planning begin!
Thankfully I had a shared room to crash in (thank you for loving Star Wars as a new fangirl, Jane!), a paid in full Disney World Annual Pass, and a few air miles left over from recent trips. That pretty much gets me there, houses me, and gets me into Galaxy’s Edge without spending extra money. Well, much anyway.
But I gotta work on the on-planet budget while I visit the Black Spires Outpost. I have a feeling I could get into trouble quickly there with all this tempting merchandise.
What’s Free in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge?
There’s got to be free things in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, right? Because I know there are ways to score free things in Disneyland so some of that has to spill over to this new land.
I’ve done some research and asked friends who have visited Batuu what kind of souvenirs or experience I could take away for free at Galaxy’s Edge.
One thing to point out: I realize that none of this is really free in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. I mean, you’ve got to pay to get into the land, if nothing else.
But I’m going at this from the fact that you know you’re going, I know you’re going, Disney knows you’re going… and you know you want something tangible to remember the trip by.
Here’s what I found to help you hit up Batuu on a budget.
1. Free in Galaxy’s Edge: Cool Batuu PhotoPass Card
The pictures are not free- unless you have an Annual Pass. But the card, guys, the card is so cool!
And it costs you nothing to walk up, get a PhotoPass photographer picture, and collect your free Galaxy’s Edge souvenir.
2. Water is Free In Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Just like at every quick service location in Disney Parks, you can get a free cup of water in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Hit up Docking Bay 7 for your cool and quenching cup of water. No purchase necessary (I usually go over to the Mobile Order line to ask for this).
This may seem silly to add to the list, but, um, have you been to a Disney Park in August? Trust your feelings, you know it’s true. You’ll be thanking me for this free tip!
3. Oga’s Cantina Coasters are Free in Galaxy’s Edge
And they are adorable!
4. Free Galaxy’s Edge Themed Park Maps
Yes, I know, everything is on the My Disney Experience or Disneyland apps.
But don’t you just love holding a real paper Disney map? There’s something sweet and nostalgic about that. And guess what, space travelers?
The theme park maps are free in Galaxy’s Edge. So you know I’m picking up one for my scrapbook!
5. “Free” Gift Card* From Batuu
This one is pretty cool, I mean, have you ever seen such an amazing gift card?
Yes, I’m geeking out over a gift card: peak Disney, here I am.
Now this one comes with an *
Because it’s not totally free in the sense that, like theme park entry, you are going to put money down to come home with this gift card.
However, the money you put on this gift card when you purchase it can be used everywhere Disney Gift Cards are accepted.
You can spend this all over Disneyland, Walt Disney World, in your Disney resort, online on an app, and even for your runDisney Rival Run race registration.
And if you’re spending just about any time on Disney property, you know that $100 will go to good use. Hang on to the gift card after it’s depleted as a souvenir (or reload it and use it forever!).
6. WiFi & the Play Disney Parks App Is Free On Batuu
I mean… we had to add this one! Disney’s FREE Play Disney Parks app is a must do (I hear) on Batuu.
Want to get super interactive while walking around or waiting in line?
Use the app with the free wifi you’ll find in the park.
Also: be sure to connect to the free wifi in Galaxy’s Edge.
Because I need to see all your IG worthy scans (photos) until I can make my own trip to a Galaxy Far, Far Away.
So connect and share. For me, umkay?
Til the Spires!
