Walt Disney World Marathon Cigna Run Together Meetup

Marathon cigna

My big Walt Disney World Marathon weekend kicked off in the best way ever: a Cigna sponsored blogger meetup.  As the primary sponsor of both the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend and the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend, I knew I was in for a treat.

Standing outside Epcot, I had a chance to get to know some of my fellow bloggers that I’ve only “met” online.

It was here that I first verbalized my intentions of running the 2016 Walt Disney World Marathon outside a trusted inner circle of friends.

I’m not sure what I expected to happen when I told these seasoned runners what I was about to try, but their enthusiastic cheer of support was NOT it!  They gave a huge cheer and started giving advice. It was awesome.

Running bloggers: I love ya!  Thank you for the immediate support.

We headed into the event for lunch, games, and learning!

We broke into groups and became teams.  I was thrilled to be part of #TeamDaisy.  It was clear that this group was in it to win it- whatever “it” turned out to be!

The Cigna folk started us off with some questions and tasks.  If we answered correctly, we received coins.  The goal was to gain as many coins as we could.  The tasks got us up and moving.  This was not a game for the lazy!

The questions revolved around prevention of common health issues. We learned that in a recent survey of insured adults conducted by Cigna, 45 percent of Americans say they don’t know that they should have an annual check-up  and half are unaware that if they have insurance, there is no cost for the annual check-up.

Wowza.

People, there is no excuse anymore!

Thanks, Obama. No- really, thanks!

Annual physicals are covered under your health insurance plans
for free and are essential to our personal health.

They provide us with an opportunity to check on our most critical health numbers such as Body Mass Index (BMI), cholesterol and blood pressure. Cigna even offered free screenings at the expo.

Get this: the Cigna study found that 66 percent of adults are overweight or obese, but only 18 percent realize it and are trying to lose weight. Isn’t that nuts? ONLY 18 percent are trying to make a change.

My mind was blown.

If you want to know more about this study, visit www.Cigna.com/takecontrol.

As the games went on, #TeamDaisy racked up the coins.

And guess what: WE WON.

Best. Picture. Ever!

Cigna had a few more surprises for us. We were given a sweet swag bag as a thank you for taking the time to come to the event.

They also brought in some special guests as we were leaving.

You know we love us some Mickey!

My thanks go to Cigna for the fabulous event.  I know I left with new information and some new health nuggets.

I’ll go ahead and give even more thanks for sponsoring the entire Walt Disney World Marathon weekend.

This was my first trip to the Granddaddy of runDisney events, and it won’t be my last.

Thanks again, Cigna!

Here’s the recap video Cigna put together of the event.

There may or may not be some embarrassing Elaine-like dance moves happening by yours truly.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.  😉
