This week we are talking about my favorite part of running a race. Because frankly, I’m in it for the after party.
Tuesdays on the Run this week: tell us about your post race celebrations.
Do you stay for the last finishers? Hang around the event soaking in the vibe? Head immediately home family celebration? Food? Drink? We’d love to hear how YOU par-tay after a race!
Link up with Erika, Marcia and me for this week’s Tuesdays on the Run!
Par-tay! Post-Race Celebrations
Since most of my races involve Disney, that’s where I spend my celebratory time after a race.
Typically I head to the hotel since I’m the last of my friends to finish and do the ritual recovery steps. I do my thing, take a dip in the hot tub, shower, compression sleeves, and out the door I go.
With the post-race recovery steps complete, I’m READY to eat.
Okay, and drink. Because that is the real essence to my recovery: numb ALL the pain.
If we are at Walt Disney World, this means a trip to Epcot is in order.
La Cava: accept no substitutes.
Here we partake in chips, guac, queso, salsa, and pineapple margaritas.
They are simply the best. Diet Diva Tara says we need to refuel our carbs ASAP, so, I’m just following the RD’s orders.
I’m also a huge fan of the baked potatoes that you can find in the Magic Kingdom.
Yes- that’s right. Baked potatoes. They are delicious and only cost a snack credit. Salty, buttery, cheesy goodness. Here’s where to get them if it sounds like a celebratory option for you!
Dinner is usually at Be Our Guest in the Magic Kingdom for two reasons.
One: they have the best steak on property. Yes, I think it’s better than Le Cellier.
Two: late hours in the park.
I love to eat dinner early and be out in time to hop on Big Thunder Mountain or the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train as the fireworks start. That’s my tip to you if you runDisney.
Fireworks: watch on a coaster at least once every trip.
It’s amazing.
If I’m on the other coast running at Disneyland, things pretty much follow the same pattern.
The drinks come from the Cozy Cone over in Disney’s California Adventure Park.
Since I’m not driving down Route 66, I figure it’s ok to sip and stroll through the best-themed land in Disney.
The food ends up being a hodgepodge when I’m at Disneyland.
I tend to eat a little here, eat a bit there, instead of a sit-down meal.
If I can grab a seat at the Carnation Cafe on Main Street, USA, I indulge in the famous fried pickles.
Yall. This is a party in your mouth.
I highly recommend!
I also love eating at Cafe Orleans. They have fabulous salads with delicious chicken or salmon. Split a side of pomme frits with a friend and you are covering all your nutritional needs post-race.
If I’m racing at home, I am pretty boring. I’m a grab my medal and walk to the car kind of girl. I like to get home and see the family, share the details of the race, and be comfortable in my home. The kids like to make dinner for me on those days or kindly suggest we eat pizza instead of cooking. It’s a win all around!
What does your post-race celebration look like? Do you have a favorite meal or drink?

My wife and I were chatting about our sites last night and she mentioned this cool Tuesday themed link up...you all have some great sites and articles. It was a great inspiration to try to write about something a bit different this week. My site is still relatively new so I'm still finding my way around! Hope you don't mind me joining in this week...Cheers!

I will have to admit to partaking of Margaritas and Mexican food at Epcot's San Angel Inn. Talk about numbing the pain. Oh, my. Where/what is La Cava?

It's the tequila bar inside the Mexican pavillion. It's AWESOME.
