How I Can (VERY) Easily Blow $1,000 on Running

Spending $1,000 is a little too easy for me to do.

Just ask my husband.

Spending $1,000 on running is a little bit harder… because I have a hard time spending that amount of money on stuff.

I mean sure, I have good shoes, quality clothes, and a great watch… but I don’t need much else.  A decent amount of money goes to race registrations – but when it all comes down to it, I spend the most on travel.

Coast to Coast with runDisney isn’t cheap! Good thing the west coast races are on hiatus.

That’s right, folks.  Shocker, I know.

So today’s topic of spending $1,000 on running to me really means spending $1,000 on travel to a race… which got me thinking of a few different races I’m dying to travel to do!

SeaWheeze Half Marathon

About SeaWheeze

This one’s a new one, folks!  I followed a few ladies on Instagram for this year’s race and it has officially made it to the top of the list.  I WILL run this race one day!

SeaWheeze isn’t your average half marathon. In fact, it may just be the most breathtakingly beautiful and ridiculously fun half marathon in the world. Over 10,000 runners descend on Vancouver to sweat it out over a weekend of yoga, running, and of course, one hell of an awesome party. Prepare to harness your powers of positivity, physicality, and mindfulness, all while taking in next-level natural beauty. Crush some goals (and maybe a few brews), and get swept away in a weekend of fun you’ll never forget.

Maui Half Marathon

About Maui Half Marathon

Now, not a lot of you know this but I was married in Maui.

Maui is my happy place… Hawaii has my heart!

So any reason to head back to the island is a good reason for me.  Plus, I think it would be a blast to run in Maui.

Also in doing research for this post, I realized that this year’s race is on my birthday and do you think my family would go for a last minute trip?!

There’s a tiny part of me that would want to do the full marathon – but if I am being honest with myself I think I’ll have a better vacation if I stick to 13.1!

Reggae Half Marathon

About the Reggae Half Marathon

Here’s another one that’s been on my list for a while. Because I spend so much time working with the Disney destination races, Jamaica has been on my list of races to explore for a while.

The Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K start at Long Bay Beach Park situated along Negril’s famed 7-mile white sand beach. The course loops into the town of Negril then heads north towards the town of Green Island. The mostly flat course is an IAAF certified marathon, half-marathon course & 10K course.

Plus it would be great to relax with this view afterward!

I would absolutely LOVE to get a group together to run this one, and I already have a resort in mind who would set us up with a great group rate!

I just need to find the time and the energy to actually get it together.

This is another one where I’m torn between the full and the half.  My heart says full, but my head (and feet and legs) says half.

Big Sur Marathon

About Big Sur

This one blows me away every year.  I love following the runners on social media, and always have crazy medal envy! I will do this race one day!

The timing scares me too much to fully commit to this one, but maybe one day.  I’ve already decided once the girls get a little older and I have more time to really focus on training I’m going to try to set some bigger goals for myself, and this one is on the list!

The Big Sur Marathon will officially end at 1 PM when the course will reopen to regular two-way vehicular traffic. There will be NO support of any kind on the course (aid stations, medical, communications, etc.) for anyone not maintaining a 6-hour pace. Those who do not reach marathon mile 21.2 by 11:50 AM will not be allowed to proceed past that point and will be provided transportation to the finish. No finish medallions or official times will be provided for anyone finishing after 1 PM.

Ragnar Relay

About Run Ragnar

So – this one isn’t really a specific time/place/race it’s just something I REALLY want to do.

There’s one in Texas that looks fun, California, Florida, Kentucky… Niagara… Utah…  The list goes ON and ON.

These races look so exciting and they scare me juuuuuust enough. I would love to join a team of runners to experience one of these relays. There is a part of me that just wants to pick a race and put a team together myself, but I think that might be best left to the professionals.

That Hill Country race though… guys… let’s do it!

Traveling and hotels are a huge chunk of destination races. Those sound like great places to run. I just found out Big Sur does a 12k...

For Big Sur, they do have other distance options! I did the 21 miler this year! I knew it would be tight for me to meet the marathon timing, and I just didn't want to run the additional 5 miles! You still get the awesome parts of the course, and have an additional hour and a half I think to run it? Definitely recommend!

Yeah okay now this is something I'm going to HAVE to do...
