Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay… Cinco de Mayo, Y’all

Originally posted when the blog was named Margaritas, Miles & the Mouse.

I talk a lot about Disney here.  And I talk a lot about running.  And then of course there’s the combo of the two- running AT Disney.

But I feel like some attention needs to be spent on the other piece of the blog title.  In all it’s epic glory:  here’s some talk about Margaritas.  With some Disney thrown in.  And running… think I can mange to put all three together?  Hmmm… I think I can!

Margaritas in Epcot after running #PrincessHalf.  BOOM!

Yeah… my Mom’s so proud.  Her middle daughter double fisting while her kids are at home.  I’m a role model, y’all!

In all seriousness, it’s good to let your hair down and frankly, I’d earned those calories that morning.  I hear that drinking around the World at Epcot is a good time, but I never seem to get farther than Germany before I turn around and head back to Mexico.  True Story.  I don’t even know what they serve in 9 of 11 countries- I’ve been known to suck down a Grand Marnier & Grey Goose Orange Slush when I *have* to.  Mexico is pretty far from France, yo!

Epcot has this little known awesome spot hidden in the Mexican pavilion.  Now, this may not be shocking news to the runners out there, because I saw y’all packed in after the Princess!  But usually when I swing by La Cava de Tequila, it’s pretty sparsely populated.  Walk up to the bar, order my favorite, and soak in the tequila drenched atmosphere.  It’s a little slice of heaven right in the middle of Epcot.

The menu is spectacular!  The hardest part is narrowing down what you want to try first.  With over 70 types of tequila to choose from, you could stay here all day.  And night.  And probably well into the morning hours since you wouldn’t be able to find your way to the monorail.  (not that I condone that kind of behavior at Disney!)

Here’s my favorite:

Avocado

El Mayor premium white Tequila, melon liquor and fresh avocado mixed with fresh lime juice and agave nectar syrup, served frozen with a hibiscus Himalayan salt rim

Place approximately 1/3 of a very ripe avocado in a blender. Top with ice (measured with the glass you’re going to be serving in) and add 2 parts tequila, 1 part Midori liquor, 2 parts lime juice, 1 part simple syrup made with agave nectar. Blend until smooth and serve in a salt rimmed glass

Ohhhh yeaaahhhhh… It’s a health drink.  Really.

100% pure awesome, y’all.  I think I’m running the Wine & Dine Half this fall just so I can have this drink afterward. By the way- if you are looking to join the fun, it’s at 80% capacity this morning!  Shenanigans says you can have a drink after you run your 13.1 miles… so why not come out and join us?

On the west coast you can also enjoy a little margarita action after a run.  If you are super lucky and pixie-dusted you might even get to enjoy a drink IN Disneyland.  Club 33 is exclusive, andthe only place you can get an alcoholic beverage in Disneyland.  I had 2 lovely margaritas while celebrating the Tinker Bell Half this past January.

I don’t always drink at Disneyland, but when I do, it’s a Club 33 Cadillac margarita.

As far as Cinco de Mayo goes, I know Texas will be celebrating this weekend.  Yep- the whole state.  We love a reason to party and honoring our neighbors to the south is just as good a reason as any other, right?

Be safe, be responsible, be awesome.

Viva Mexico!
