I know many of us in the runDisney community miss seeing the number one cheerleader at the races, Peggy Sue.
She left us over a year ago, and her presence is so very missed at the runDisney events.
You may not have known Peggy Sue personally, but if you ran at Walt Disney World or Disneyland, you probably remember seeing her sign.
It was a heartfelt message that brought many of us to tears the first time we saw it. (raises hand)
When she passed right after the Walt Disney World Marathon in 2015, the community lost their biggest cheerleader. Her sign continues to show up at the races with many of us having the honor to hold and share her message.
With the blessing of Peggy Sue’s family, a virtual run has been created in her memory.
The proceeds will be donated to the One Orlando Fund in her name.
Every time I see Starbursts, I think of her and how she waited for every runner (even those of us in the back) to pass her by. She always saved a little something for those of us in the back because she understood our struggles.
Let’s keep her message of love going by running this virtual in her memory!
Here are the details:
- The cost is $35 to participate in the virtual run. The price includes 3″ medal, ribbon, shipping and processing fees.
- The run can be held anytime that fits your schedule; any distance you run will honor her, and the lives lost at Pulse nightclub.
- Everyone is invited to participate- spread the word!
- Medals will ship in about 10 weeks.
The medals feature the likeness of her favorite Disney character.
If you’d like more information, head over to the Facebook page for the event. You can find it here.
If you are ready to sign up, here’s the registration link.
If you have additional questions, go ahead and shoot an email over to [email protected]
Happy running, complete strangers. I’m proud of you too!
Disclosure: I’m not officially affiliated with this virtual race, but I miss Peggy Sue and wanted to help share the word about this race.
