Thanks for reading this week!

Novelty Runs

This week’s prompt is the Novelty Run.  We’re talking about things like the Color Run, the Bubble Run, Zombie Runs, etc.  Anything that’s got a twist and is not to be taken seriously is what we want to hear about this week.

I’m extremely boring and no fun.  I do not do these kinds of races.

Or do I?

I suppose you could make the argument that I *only* do novelty races since I’m pretty much locked into the runDisney culture.

In my mind, we’re talking two totally different categories.

Or maybe I figure that paying $35 to run a Color Run is just taking $35 out of my Disney race fund.  That’s probably the most accurate way to explain my thought process.  Okay… that IS how I think.

If I’m going to be silly and frivolous, I want to do it at a runDisney event where I get to see a castle and blame pixie-dust for making me do it.

Speaking of runDisney:

TODAY is the last day to turn in proof of time for Walt Disney World Marathon weekend.

And

TODAY is the day to register for the runDisney race in PARIS.  Don’t ask me how: all I know is that the Travel Agents will have the hook-ups (and I haven’t heard anything from my travel agent friends.) This is what you can find on the Disneyland Paris website:

How do you register? Full details of how to register via Disneyland Paris as well as the list of travel partners will be made available on October 6th 2015 when our travel packages go on sale.

Race-only registration (without travel packages) will open on January 12th 2016.

ETA:  I hear this has been pushed back to October 13. Interesting.

I’d love to hear from anyone who signs up for this one!

What do you think about the novelty races?  Have you participated in them before? I know they are just for silly fun, but why or why don’t you sign up for them?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I think the novelty races are a great way to introduce “non runners” to running. They are relatively inexpensive, local and a fun alternative to “girl’s night out”. There is usually a pretty fun after party tacked on to the event too – I may not get a medal but a post-race beer from the beer tent makes me happy too!

  2. I don’t do them either, but I think they are a great way to get people out there and to get kids moving. Wearing a costume to a normal race is about as “novelty” as I get…

  3. We are huge Disney fans too as you know. You never need an excuse to dress up for a Disney Race since that’s pretty much the norm. I feel like they go so much quicker than other races. I think it is bc there is so much to see along the course oppose to other races.

  4. Haha you’re so funny. I don’t do novelty runs, but I don’t runDisney either! Something about the high price tag and huge crowds intimidates me. But I DO love love love Disney. 🙂

  5. Not a fan of most novelty runs. I think it’s insane to spend $45 to do a color run when it’s not timed, half the time you can’t even run it, and i just have to walk it by dodging people who stop at each color station and demand to have the color put directly on them. I get a crappy tshirt from it and then have to go home and scrub blue powder out of my ears. I’d rather save the money.

  6. I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY wanna do the Zombie Run. But also know my clumsy self enough to know I WILL hurt myself and get benched.

So not ’til after the Princess.

  7. I do think it’s funny that I think most of the novelty races are overpriced and yet I barely blink at RunDisney prices. 🙂 There’s no question that Disney races are worth the money, naturally.

  8. Yeah, I haven’t done a novelty run yet either. Though, I’ve definitely dressed up for runs/races before. I’m all for races that offer something to any runner. Not everyone is into running those “serious” races so I think the novelty runs serve a purpose of getting people that wouldn’t normally run races to actually lace up and get out there. Whatever moves you!!
