Is Shang-Chi Too Scary For Kids? Parent Movie Guide
As we enter Phase 4 of the MCU, Marvel is starting to get weird.
And weird Marvel is best Marvel, in our opinion.
But it also does bring in a few more intense situations and moments that might end up being too scary for kids to watch.
This parent movie guide will help you know what types of scary elements are in the movie, just in case it’s too extreme for your family.
If Your Kids Have Watched All The Marvel Movies Before
Shang-Chi is very different from previous movies when it comes to fighting scenes.
Things are one-on-one or in some cases, one-on-five! Tons of hand-to-hand martial arts fighting and some of the coolest action sequences in the MCU.
There are fewer guns or knives in this movie than most Marvel movies (though they are in the movie, just not the main weapon used in fights).
If your kids have watched the Marvel movies before, they are likely going to be ok seeing this movie.
If you need to catch up, here are the Marvel movies to watch before Shang-Chi.

Mystical Elements In Shang Chi And The Legend Of the Ten Rings
We mentioned weird Marvel up above, and there are some weird moments in this movie!
A dragon is featured, along with a mysterious villain creature that plays prominently in the 3rd act. And that sucker is scary!
Most of the movie is typical Marvel fare, but the end of the movie gets a little more freaky and intense and, well, weird.
You know your kids best: some may find this part the BEST part of the movie! But others may be scared of the creatures and the fight scenes that ensue.
As adults, we found the creature to be A LOT to take in, so please just be prepared for it, parents!

Is Shang-Chi Too Scary For Kids: On-Screen Deaths
There are quite a few on-screen deaths, some that might be highly concerning for young children.
Marvel is a Disney movie (kinda) so you know… parents in the movie don’t always live.
Sometimes kids focus on worry about losing their parents, especially in the ages of 6-11. If the death of a parent is concerning for your family, please know these death scenes may be too scary for your kids.
While this parent movie guide should give you some idea of what’s in the movie, Shang-Chi would be a great preview movie for parents.
