Genie+ Becomes Lightning Lane Multi Pass | Advanced Ride Planning Is BACK!

Sharing is caring!

If there’s one thing I can count on with Disney Parks, it’s change. Change in attractions (Splash Mountain becomes Tiana’s Bayou Adventure- yay!), prices, hours, and even processes (mobile ordering is one change I love!). And now, just a few years after Genie+ was introduced, there are changes afoot for this program. Starting July 24, 2024, Genie Plus will become Lightning Lane Multi Pass and individual Lightning Lane will now be known as Lightning Lane Single Pass. What does that mean? It means advance ride planning is BACK ala FastPass+ days… except you are paying for that service. Here are the details you need for your upcoming summer and fall vacations at Walt Disney World.

Advanced Ride Planning at Disney World: The 101 on Lightning Lane Multi Pass & Lightning Lane Single Pass

Once upon a time, Disney “fixed” FastPass+ with the changes to the program, rebranding it as Genie+. This fairytale improvement was supposed to make lines shorter and faster for those willing to pay for access.

After grumbling, guests paid the additional costs, some days paying as much as $35 per person per day to “skip the line.”

It kind of worked. It kind of didn’t. Your mileage may vary on whether Lightning Lane purchases are worth it.

But guests wanted to pre-plan a bit like we once used to do with FastPass+ and Disney has finally decided to implement these changes at Walt Disney World this summer.

Discover how Lightning Lane passes will enhance your visit starting July 24th.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass

With the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, guests can pre-select up to 3 Lightning Lane experiences per theme park visit.

Choose your preferred times when making your selections in advance.

On the day of your visit, after using a selection, check the My Disney Experience app for additional available times for another attraction.

Lightning Lane Single Pass

Like current offerings, the Lightning Lane Single Pass allows guests to secure a time for one of our most popular attractions, now with the added convenience of planning and purchasing in advance.

This is the option that was known as Individual Lightning Lane, which includes rides like Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind and Tron: Lightcycle Run

Advanced Ride Purchases: How To Book Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass

Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels and select partners like Shades of Green Resort, Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels can plan Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance for their entire stay (up to 14 days).

Other guests can plan up to 3 days ahead.

You can also do it the day of your visit, but I’d advise to book as soon as you can for the most options.

These windows ensure guests can secure their must-do attractions after finalizing dining reservations and other plans.

Guests have the option to purchase either a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, a Lightning Lane Single Pass, or both in a streamlined process through the updated app.

The new app features fewer steps and the ability to purchase both passes in a single transaction. It should be easier to operate than Genie+ which made you book each ride one at a time.

Lightning Lane passes combine elements from existing services and the previous FastPass+ system, offering guests the flexibility to plan ahead and enjoy a hassle-free vacation experience.

I hope this is a good thing and that it means we’re making things easier on families who want to visit Walt Disney World. But I won’t know until the processes are in place, starting in July.
