Embracing Runner Health with Cigna at the Disneyland Half Marathon
One of my favorite parts of being part of the runDisney community is the people I get to hang out with. The races are cool, and the location is magical, but the PEOPLE are what makes it truly unique.
I’ve found a group of health and fitness enthusiasts who are hard to beat. One of the most recent additions to my personal sphere of influence has been the Cigna Team.
Over the past year, I’ve had the pleasure to interact with them multiple times and always come away from the events with inspiring health-related information.
Not only are they sponsors of two runDisney race weekends, but they are also genuinely concerned about health and wellness of the runners.
And they have really fun photo ops!
This weekend will be no different! The Disneyland Half Marathon weekend, hosted by Cigna, kicks off Thursday and I’m a sad little Disney dork that can’t make the races this year.
Y’all have a great time for me- and send all the pictures!
Last year Cigna hosted a blogger/social media get together during the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend. They are doing it again this year so be on the lookout for #Cignaruntogether on social media to follow the influencers taking on a scavenger hunt this Friday. It looks like they will have a blast.
But onto last years event:
While I was there for the learning (ok, and lunch!), I absolutely loved getting to connect with some of my favorite running and blogging people.
We danced, we tried some new tricks, we ate a healthy meal, and we laughed a lot. This group was a lot of fun!
While we were there, we competed in a game show type event as a team. My team, Team Mickey, came in 2nd place.
We killed it in the word scramble game, thanks to the brilliant teacher mind of Wendy at Over the Top Mommy.
HOLLA!
Side note: I have no idea what we were all doing in college, but flip cup was not our major!
Though Brandi from Runner Runner did an excellent job representing our table.
Look at that concentration! DIALED IN, YO!
Here are a few takeaways from the event that I’m hoping you can use in your daily life.
It was fun and games, but we actually learned a lot.
FOOD FOR RUNNERS
Nothing you probably didn’t already know there, except maybe you are missing that wild salmon option. Fish is GREAT for runners; try putting some on the grill and your table once or twice a week!
SLEEP
This is a massive fail for me. But I’m working on making this pattern better.
These are ALL things I need help with in my life. I’d love to get off the blood pressure meds, lose some weight, and have more focus and energy in my life.
Sleep will do that for you. Who knew?
GETTING MY RUNNING ON TRACK
My running has been hit and miss this summer. I’m getting a few miles in here and there, but not enough to really make an impact.
I liked these tips- especially the exploring new routes idea!
The day was wrapped up with a special visit by two of my favorites.
I wish I had the video on for this portion because these two had some MOVES. They were clearly embracing the Cigna move and groove vibe of the day!
Thanks, once again, for hosting and sponsoring the Disneyland Half Marathon!
Good luck to everyone running!

Patty Holliday has been running Disney since 2011. She knows just about every tip, trick, and hack there is to cover the runDisney Magical Miles at Disney World and Disneyland. She knows every mile isn’t *always* magical- but with training, tips, and a little bit of pixie dust, they can be a lot of fun! You can also find her at noguiltlife.com and noguiltfangirl.com

Disney and Cigna obviously put a ton of effort and money into making these races live up to all of the hype they generate! Sounds like you've found a really fun "behind the scenes' niche to be a part of! Have fun!

The Disney races intrigue me, but it's doubtful I"ll ever do one. The enormous crowds would NOT be my gig...even for a few minutes with Micky or Aladdin ;-)

I have tilapia and shrimp, but I can't eat salmon that often. I like it, but it's so rich. I just need a little sliver and I'm good with that.

Sounds like a fun time! I've never run a Disney race and probably never will, but I love that you've found an awesome group to hang with.

I get invites from Cigna for all the Disney blogger stuff and it makes me bummed I'm not going!
